Personal development, procrastination and perfectionism

As we know there are different aspects of personal development. One of them is changing your attitude in a way that you will no longer procrastinate your tasks and duties.
When we have some duties and tasks to be done, the first mistake we may make is telling ourselves that “I have to do this”. This will make you procrastinate. Because when you feel that you are obliged to do a thing you will have a feeling of resentment and you will automatically find some tendency toward procrastination. So we can say that when you tell yourself that you have to do something, you’re implying and admitting that you’re being forced to do it, so you’ll automatically feel the resentment and rebellion because of this obligation.
Procrastination is a defense mechanism to keep you away from this pain. For solving this first mental block, you should accept and realize that you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. You should accept that although there may be some serious consequences you are always free to choose. Also we can say that there are some fields of our life we don’t seem to procrastinate and delay like our favorite TV shows.
If you think about the whole task to be done you will feel overwhelmed. Instead of this, break the task into smaller pieces and try doing it. Perfectionism and thinking that you have to do the task perfectly can be another cause of putting off your tasks. Believing that you must do something perfectly is a reason for stress, and you’ll associate that stress with the task, thus it will lead to not doing it.
Another reason that makes you put off and procrastinate one task, is associating it with negative feelings. You should try to have a positive look toward a task. If you find no fun in doing your tasks and inculcate yourself with this idea that doing those tasks are preventing you from enjoying your moments, then you will probably feel like delaying and procrastinating it.
Try not to schedule in a way that it destroys your life’s fun moments. This will lead to a feeling of dissatisfaction and resentment about your tasks which will make you to procrastinate and put them off. As we saw trying not to delay your tasks is an aspect of personal development.
Personal development has got many other aspects like changing your way of thinking and developing your relationships, developing your personality, gaining more self-confidence and so on.
