Meditation and stress reduction
Meditation is an ancient practice and is a state in which the mind is free of thoughts. Or It is a discipline in which the mind is focused on only an object at all. In all religions we can find the importance of meditation. Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Taoism, etc.
Meditation itself is divided into two segments: mindfulness meditation and concentration meditation. In mindfulness meditation the meditator sits comfortably and silently and focuses on an object or process. Concentration meditation is mentioned in most religions and spiritual practices.
In Christian type of meditation the meditator should think on a topic. Hinduism meditation is done by repetition of mantras. Buddhism meditation is done by concentrating on breathing.
You can meditate anywhere you choose. This means you can use your spare time for meditation. For example when you are a passenger of a taxi in its way through rush hour take a deep breath and close your eyes and try to lower your breathing rate by holding your breath for couple of seconds and then release it slowly. Try to be relaxed and release your stress out of your body. You should remain in comfortable postures. If you do the meditation twice a day you will gain better results.
Many researches in physiology relate to transcendental meditation(TM) and the relaxation comes by meditation is much more than sleeping. During meditation breathing slows, your muscle will be relaxed and your blood pressure will be normalized. Destructive thoughts will be extracted from your mind and positive thoughts will be replaced. Meditation decreases muscle’s tension and headache and increases learning ability, moral reasoning and memory.
If you want to have a restful mind, meditation is an appropriate choice. When the mind is silent, concentration will be increased and we can manage it by replacing unhappiness, sadness and disturbances with happiness and peace.
